Merchant Banking

FBR Capital Markets’ principal investing activity consists primarily of merchant banking investments and investments in hedge and venture funds.  The merchant banking investments are made in selected transactions that our investment banking group underwrites, a strategy that involves putting our capital to work along side the capital of our ultimate clients – institutional and retail investors.  In the past, merchant banking investments were made by FBR Group, FBR Capital Markets’ parent company.  Going forward, FBR Capital Markets, investing through FBR Merchant Banking Co., a wholly owned subsidiary, will maintain its own merchant banking investment portfolio.
